Weaving together cultural and political histories, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan (b. 1984, lives and works in Istanbul) and Seher Shah (b. 1975, lives and works in New Delhi) come together in dialogue as they reflect on the erasure and rewriting of cultural heritage caused by political ruptures across history. Working with sculpture, drawing and photogravures both artists question the transformative processes and exchanges between cultures.

Seher Shah’s work Argument from Silence (2019), a portfolio of ten polymer photogravures explores the complex relationships between object, site and history through the collection of Gandhara sculptures at the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Chandigarh built in 1967.

Hera Büyüktaşçıyan’s installation Foundations (2019) works with rolled carpets standing as a passageway, welcoming the viewer to explore the pillars of a lost space, namely the stoa of the lost library of Pergamon. Both artists question these complex relationships between culture, national boundaries and entities in constant flux.
