Exploring drawing in the expanded field – Focus: Drawing, Tracing, Mapping- takes the practice of drawing as a starting point to consider the divergent ways that artists use the practice to map divergent cartographies, dreams and imaginaries. Here, drawing is not the simple act of applying graphite to paper, but rather, drawing is performance and social sculpture, as much as it is about the study, diagramming and impression of a portrayal. Here, drawings reveal hidden histories and contour realities. Drawing becomes a means to see the unseen. Referencing tradition, but with a contemporary outlook, these works showcase what drawing means to some of the most important visual artists working today.
