For Libyan creatives, art has become a way to reclaim narrative, rebuild identity, and reconnect with home.
Despite years of political upheaval and cultural displacement, Libya’s contemporary art scene has continued to evolve with remarkable energy. Today, a new generation of artists, photographers, and filmmakers is reclaiming narratives of identity, memory, and belonging, often working between Libya and the diaspora. From muralists reimagining public space to textile artists exploring heritage and transformation, this creative renaissance spans continents and mediums. Figures such as Tewa Barnosa, Nour Jaouda, and BULIFA are redefining what it means to create from – and about – Libya today.
ALLA ABDUNABI
Alla Abdunabi is a Libyan visual artist whose sculptural and installation-based works trace the material afterlives of objects. Her practice cleverly merges storytelling with historical inquiry, exploring diaspora, displacement, and the politics of preservation. Alla has an impressive list of past presentations, having exhibited at 421 Art Campus, Jameel Arts Centre, and Dream City Festival. In November 2025, Alla will debut a solo presentation at Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2025.
