Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, Letters from Lost Paradise (detail), 2017

Doublethink: Double vision’s title alludes to George Orwell’s seminal work 1984 and offers a reading of alternative thinking methods. The word ‘Doublethink’ was invented to demonstrate how the State was taking over the individual’s mind. Doublethink is the ability to hold two contradictory ideas in your mind at the same time and believe in both of them. Artists from around the world are showing how to develop not just doublethink, but polythink, thinking along multiple parallel or tangential lines at the same time.
